convinced that the whole strategy of speed cameras is flawed. His argument is that they are geared towards punishing drivers rather than helping them reduce their speed.
One key indicator of this is the lack of signs warning drivers that they may be speeding and could be caught.
"There's so much going on on busy roads it's hard for drivers to be sure what the limit is. That's why you need flashing signs telling them whether it's 30mph or 40mph.
"If you have that, then there really is no excuse for exceeding the limit. But speed limit signs need to be more obvious and more frequent — and placed at least 12 feet above the ground so they can be seen.
"In my opinion, every second street lamp should carry a sign alerting you to what speed you can do. At the moment the whole system is designed to catch you, rather than help you."
