9 The Rolls-Royce Eagle 260 turbotharged diesel has been uprated from 260 Alp to 265 bhp at 2100 rpm and is now :nown as the Eagle 265. Changes to the :ngine comprise the modifications made to he Eagle 205 and 220 naturally aspirated iflits which enabled them to be certified nder the BSI Certification Scheme (CM, uly 17 1970) so that they complied with le BS AU141 (1967) standard. These units re classified Eagle Mk II units.

It is anticipated that the Eagle 265 will be ertified in due course and it will then be flown as the Eagle Mk. II 265. The torque iting of the engine is 747 lbft at 1425 rpm tile its minimum specific fuel consumption less than 0.348 lb bhp /h at 1300 rpm.

Performance curves of the Eagle Mk II

220 bhp diesel show that it has a torque of 605 lbft at 1400 rpm and a minimum specific fuel consumption of about 0.377 lb bhp /h. Maximum exhaust smoke density varies between 0.2 gm /m3 at 1000 rpm on full load to 0.14 gin /m3 at 2100 rpm.

II 220 and an Eagle 265 will be exhibited at Earls Court. • The first of 14 Dennis F108 fire engines, replacing front-line fire-fighting appliances, has just been delivered to the London Fire Brigade. This order brings the total number of Dennis fire engines supplied to the Metropolis in 60 years to 500. Almost 70 per cent of London's operating fleet of 350 fire appliances are Dennis.
