• Eight drivers working for a Sheffield haulier—one of them the owner's son— who did not record excessive hours on their log sheets, were fined a total of £445 at Sheffield last week.
But at the end of day's hearing, the magistrates dismissed summonses against the owner, Louis Wilson, Senior, of Haggstones Road, Worral. trading as L. Wilson and Son, of Hadfield Street Welkley, Sheffield. Mr Wilson, Senior, denied 101 alleged offences-55 of them of failing to cause records to be kept—and the rest for permitting driving for excessive hours or without the required rest period.
Mr Michael Paterson, prosecuting, said that at the time of the alleged offences—September and October last year—the firm had a contract with Tins1e5 Wire Industries Ltd. Records kept by the drivers were quite wrong because they dic not show the time they had waited at tht wire works to be loaded.
Mr Wilson, Senior, told the court: "I dit not know anything of this until the Ministr3 men came to see me."
