• Allied Ironfounders Ltd is likely to be plying for hire and reward early in September. This large Scottish own-account operator was acquired by the Midlands company Glynwed Ltd last year. The parent company has now made an application to the Scottish traffic area for an operator's licence to cover 80 vehicles and 38 trailers. In the meantime, Allied Ironfounders will receive an operator's licence for the vehicles in its own name on September 1 granted under the transitional arrangements.
Mr J. W. Phillips, the company's transport manager, told CM this week that he intends to utilize the hire and rewat potential of the 0 licence by carrying smal traffic throughout his existing distributic network. Allied Ironfounders covers all Great Britain except Devon and Corrow from its Falkirk depot with its own vehicle: Mr Phillips emphasized that he did ni intend to undercut existing rates to secu traffic. He said that it was his intention 1 co-operate with established operators providing a faster service from eentr Scotland. Using existing schedules, t] company expects to offer at least once-weekly service to most parts of Gre Britain.
