THE 29 new single-deck buses to be introduced by London Transport as part of the Board's plans to experiment with new types of vehicle (The Commercial Motor, July 3) are to be built by A.E.C. Ltd. As already indicated. the six standee buses will be of rear-engine layout, employing a derated AH 690 engine mounted beneath the floor at the rears The buses will have a Passimeter entrance at the front, and a central exit. A similar entrance and exit layout will be employed on the nine 45-seat one-man buses for operation on selected one-man-operated routes in the country bus area.

The Reliance 590 chassis will form the basis of the 14 new coaches for experimental Green Line service. Willowbrook Ltd., Loughborough, will build the 49-seat bodies for these 36-ft.-long vehicles, and full air suspension will be employed on the chassis.
