DOTH temporal and spiritual forces entered into last week's inauguration of the new office block of Watts Bros. (Beverley) Ltd., a section of Which was illustrated in The Commercial Motor, August 14. Maj. F. S. Eastwood, the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, performed the official opening and the Rev.' Stephen Walker, vicar of Beverley's historic church of St. Mary, pronounced a blessing on the enterprise in moving words.
Recalling The Commercial Motor article last year (April 26) under the title " Dr. Beeching could help Mr. Watts Maj. Eastwood said that if British Railways decided to reduce parcel collection and delivery in the East Riding, he was sure the Watts organization would be able to help Dr. Beeching. The business was founded by the father of Mr. Arthur Watts in 1878 when he took over a general carrier's service to Hull. Motor Tansport had been developed in the ;olid-tyred period and from it had grown m .up-to-date fleet of 35 vehicles, many ff them carrying a well-designed map )1r the East Riding which showed the :cv-npany's delivery area.
Many nationally known producers, vho were represented that morning, .elied on the Watts' service to give nextlay delivery from the Beverley warelouses. Following a recent case, said vlaj. Eastwood, Watts had secured traffics Or distribution in the West Ridino from heir Beverley base.
