AT some time within the next two weeks Ministry of Transport teams will be launching a two-day programme of intensive roadside spot checks" on heavy goods vehicles in and around Newcastle upon Tyne and Colchester.

These " blitz " operations are to be carried out in connection with the current intensified programme of roadside inspection. Strengthened inspection

teams will generally be operating on every working day in each of the country's 12 traffic areas, and groups of teams working together will carry out the two-day " blitzes " in and around a large town or commercial centre.

On Tuesday checks began on the A33, near Chandler's Ford, and the A92 six miles south of Aberdeen. No details have yet been announced.
