by John Kendall • Registrations are showing continuing signs of recovery for multi-wheelers and several manufacturers will be showing new vehicles at TipCon this year. Hino is bound to cause a stir, displaying its new multiwheelers for the first time in the UK. The 8x4 chassis with new Super F cab and Euro-1 engine will take centre stage on its stand. There's a choice of 8.8 and 12.9-litre in-line sixes, offering 29 5hp (220k W) or 345hp (257kW). The 6x4 chassis will not be at Harrogate but it shares the 8.8-litre engine with the eight-legger.

Other debutantes include the Strato multi-wheelers from Seddon Atkinson. Both the 26tonne and 32-tonne chassis use the Cummins L-Series 10-litre engines. Three wheelbase options are available for the six leggers and two for the eight-leggers. The Iveco EuroTech cab, also used on the Oldham-built lveco Ford multi-wheelers, is used on both chassis.

The Seddon's Iveco Ford cousins will also make their show debuts at TipCon. All three of Iveco Ford's new multi-wheeler chassis will be on display. The 340 E34 8x4 heavy chassis, designed to replace the Maggie, will share the stand inside with the lighter eight-legger 320 E34. Power comes from the 9.5-litre Iveco 8460 engine.

The 6x4 Super Cargo 260 E27 will be on show outside. Powered by Iveco's 7.7-litre 263hp engine, the chassis has Hendrickson Norde rubber suspension at the rear as standard.

ERF's EC multi-wheelers will be at TipCon for the first time, following their launch last autumn. A Cummins-powered EC10.32 eight-legger will share the stand with a Steyrcabbed ES8.24 sixlegger. The ES8 will I be fitted with a hook lift container handling system.

Leyland Daf s revised 60 Series will be on show alongside a 75Series six-wheeler and 85-Series eightwheeler. The 60Series changes are cosmetic with revised trim, new tachograph and rear view mirrors.

Scania will display two. three and four-axle rigids on its stand, which will include a business centre. Scania Finance and after-sales staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Eoden will be showing a 25-tonne 6x4 mixer chassis for the first time at TipCon. The Perkins Eagle 335Txpowered 3000 Series chassis is equipped with a 6.7m' Ritemixer body in Douglas Concrete and Aggregates livery. Weighing in at 10,300kg, the chassis offers a se payload.

Among the body manufacturers, Rothdean trailers will be displaying its Ushaped sloping tipper and showing a new lightweight tipping trailer. Its rounded profile helps to prevent loads from sticking. Rothdean will also be showing its 42m3 step-frame tipping trailer on the Stalion Hydraulics Stand; lightweight axles and Granning Lynx air suspension help to keep weight down.

Among coupling suppliers, Rockinger will be showing its Variobloc coupling, intended for light CV or 4x4 use, for the first time. The system consists of a permanently installed baseplate fitted to the towing vehicle which accepts three "plug-in" couplings. Either an automatic, hook type or 50mm ball can be used; couplings can be changed over without tools. A cover is supplied to protect the plate, when the assembly is not in use.
