its 50,000th truck and Robert Atkins, Under Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, drove the 38-tonne Roadtrain tractive unit off the line on Monday. According to chief executive George Simpson: "This is an important milestone for the Leyland Assembly Plant which is now achieving highly competitive levels of efficiency and quality. Demand for products is good and if this continues we should produce the next 50,000 trucks in a third of the time that it has taken us to produce the first."
