Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YORK TRAILERS Holdings returned to a trading profit last year, turning a £30,848 loss into a £506,825 profit. Turnover rose from £21m in 1982 to £23.4m.

The company believes it is on course for further recovery this year, and places some of the credit for its recovery last year on the introduction of products in new markets.

Its Thermovan mobile cold storage unit was a major contributor, as was the reintroduction of car transporter manufacture at York's Northallerton plant.

But most export business has collapsed, with Middle East and African markets virtually stopped buying, although York claims that while exports fell from 34 to 18 per cent of its total sales, over 40 per cent of British trailer exports were achieved by York.

Company chairman Fred Davis, commented last week: "We can look back on our emergence from the depression with satisfaction. With pride too, because it happened in the face of a far from thriving economy."

• York Trailer is steering clear of this year's NEC Motor Show, but its technical services division will be there.

York marketing manager Mark Carrington said that it no longer saw the Motor Show as a suitable trade show for finished commercial vehicles and trailers.

"There are, in our opinion, much more suitable and cost effective venues for complete vehicles."

The Technical Services division will be showing its range of lorry and trailer components, including some yet to be announced.
