Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I AM RATHER surprised that the Department of Transport has — in view of the problems experienced by coach operators during the last two years in relation to coach crashes and safety both in this country and France — allowed the intrusion into and expansion of parcels carriage by public service vehicles on trunking operations (CM March 24).

Parcels service manager Mr D. Late, National Express, stated: "Space would be no problem; coaches have ample luggage space and they have contingency plans for removing seats to install parcel cages. There is more money in parcels than passengers."

This does not appear to be the view of TNT, which is faced with 350 jobs under threat but anticipates opening fifty offices in bus stations.

I suppose next we shall see parcel-carrying trunkers with passengers as a side line. They could pay the drivers 50p per passenger bonus to lift them in and out of the cab.
