THE EARLIEST possible completion of the important M42/A42 link between Birmingham and Nottingham has been called for by the British Road Federation in a written submission to the Department of Transport public inquiery.
It said that the A42 Castle Donington (North) section would complete the line of a new route between Birmingham and Nottingham, the other sections being under construction or due to start soon.
It pointed out that the completed route would significantly improve road communications between the West and East Midlands and the North, and would provide a link round the south of the West Midlands to the southwest.
The BRF has backed the Department of Transport proposed route, but said that the route should be of motorway standard, not dual carriageway.
The next public inquiry on the route will discuss eight routes for the M5/M42 junction northern turn and takes place in Bromsgrove on May 1.
