Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Following the announcement (CM April 14) that Rolls-Royce engines are to be fitted by Fodens Ltd, the Sandbach-based company reveals that an initial order for 100 Eagle 220 Mk II diesel units has been placed on the R-R diesel division. The first of the new vehicles is expected to be delivered in May or June. The models to be so powered are the 30-ton-gvw rigid eight-wheeler truck used for tipper and mixer applications and the 32-ton gtw four-wheel tractor.

It is understood that, when placing the order for the naturally aspirated Eagle 220 engines, Fodens intimated that they are already evaluating the larger turbocharged Eagle diesels for their forthcoming vehicles.

While the latest vehicles will be the first to operate in the UK, Fodens already have considerable experience of the Eagle diesel. The first Eagle-powered Fodens were 40 three-and four-axle dumper trucks. Working 24 hours a day, seven days a week for over two years, they hauled rock 20 miles to the Dabai Harbour project. The scheme completed, the dumpers (mainly 24-tonners) are now hauling from the same quarry to the Dubai Corniche Scheme.
