Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH the opening of the new passenger car ferry between Southampton and Bilbao this month, Swedish Lloyd and Mac Andrews are also offering the first roll-on roll-off containerized cargo service from this country to Spain.

The service is operated on the new 9,000-ton luxury ferry liner, ms. Patricia, built to carry 748 passengers and a maximum of 206 cars, but with a high car deck and a stern.door opening of 30 ft. 10 in. by 21 ft. 3 in. so that standard containers can be stacked two-high.

The car/container ratio can be varied, examples being no containers and 206 cars, 15 containers and 182 cars or 25 containers (the maximum) and 159 cars.

Standard 20 ft. ISO containers or fiats are used.

For the roll-on roll-off operations at the ports, handling is by a new type of 25 ft. U-truck developed by Swedish Lloyd. This is manoeuvred to embrace the Macpak containers, which are then gripped along the bases of their sides and lifted clear of the ground.

The Patricia makes the round trip from Southampton to Bilbao three times a fortnight, taking 36 hours each way; at both ports, the departure time is 6.30 p.m. and arrival is at 7.30 a.m.
