AN 8,000 sq. ft. commercial vehicle service

centre complete with office block built for Eastern Truck Sales Ltd. at 131, Thorpe Road, Norwich, was opened last week by the managing director of Rootes commercial vehicle division, Mr. Rex Watson Lee.

The opening, attended by many operators from the surrounding area, was the highlight of a week in which Commer. Dodge and Karrier vehicles (including a York-converted six-wheeler with load-transfer device) were on show.

Eastern Truck Sales was set up this year as an associate of the Norwich Motor Co. Ltd. and as Commer /Karrier main dealers and heavy Dodge retail dealers will form the commercial vehicle side of the business. Hence the new truck centre, built on a three-acre site giving room for expansion and plenty of parking space.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Watson Lee paid tribute to the company's initiative in setting up this facility for commercial and municipal operators. He stressed the growth in UK heavy vehicle sales by pointing out that, ignoring light vanS, the annual sale of trucks in Britain had risen from 60,000 to 180,000 in 20 years and said that an increase of 20 per cent was expected in the next five years.
