A Where the principle of articulation is put to good use by the operation of one or more spare semi-trailers it should be recognized at the outset that the total mileage of all the trailers will be the same as the total mileage of the tractive unit. Theoretically, therefore, no additional operating costs would be involved other than the interest on the capital outlay necessary to purchase the additional semi-trailers. In practice, however, most operators would spend some time each week doing washing and minor servicing on the spare semi-trailers and some .nominal allowance should be made for this.
