Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ely all difficulties of transport at whatever points arising, as a carriage is by the roughness of the roads over which it runs."—John Beattie Crozier, A New Bedford 12-cwt. Van.

Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., The Hyde, London, N.W.9, announces the introduction of a new 12-cwt. delivery van. This is, in several respects, an improvement upon the Light Delivery 1O-12-cwt. van hitherto marketed, for it has the company's interesting and popular synchro-mesh device (as used on Vauxhall cars) incorporated in the gearbox, in conjunction with a silent second gear. The device causes the gearwheels to be synchronized before they can be engaged, thus ensuring foolproof gearchanging and protection of the gears from undue wear.

In addition, Magna-type wire wheels, with chromium-plated hubs, are now fitted. The body frame is stronger and the roof has more shapely lines ; also the doors have been improved. A. onepiece windscreen is fitted and many detail refinements are included in the specification.

The six-cylindered 16.9 h.p. engine, or the larger unit of 26.3 h.p. R.A.C. rating, may be fitted.

The price of the van, complete with spare wheel and tyre, is £175. The unladen weight is 22-i cwt., the overall length 14 ft., and the interior body dimensions 5 ft. 5i ins. (behind the driver) by 4 ft. 4 ins. wide.

The Tonnage Date for A and B Licences.

In clause 7, page 9, of the Road and Rail Traffic Bill, reference is made to the year during which the tonnage of goods vehicles owned by an operatoe will be considered when he applies for his A or IA licences. The year is that which commenced on April 1, 1932, and ended on March 31, 1933.

We referred in our issue for last week to the concluding date as being May 31, which was the date included in a resume of the Bill issued to the Press by the Minister of Transport. The date is important, because it means that tonnage added since, that date will not be taken into consideration for the licences issued without question for the first currency periods.
