Most fuel card providers will regularly review an operator’s credit rating and can alter their credit terms depending on the operator’s status.
“We monitor their credit ratings very closely,” said Steve Clarke, group marketing manager at The Fuel Card People. “If a credit rating goes down, then their terms will be reduced.” Geoff Dunning, chief executive of the RHA, agreed. “Fuel card companies don’t like taking unnecessary risks. The best way an operator can deal with this is make sure they tell them about any financial changes,” he said.
