Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By David Wilcox WHILE THE IAA show in Hannover was the obvious launch pad for new Euro-6 engines and models, some manufacturers preferred to keep their powder dry, arguing that Euro-6 interest among operators is still only lukewarm at best.

They include Renault Trucks, which made only passing reference to its Euro-6 engines, despite the news that it and parent group Volvo are ditching the 4.8and 7.2-litre engines developed jointly with Deutz. Their replacements are 5.2-litre, 4-cylinder and 7.8-litre, 6-cylinder engines, both bored and stroked versions of engines by UD Trucks, formerly Nissan Diesel – another part of the Volvo Group. Both use common-rail fuel injection from Japanese supplier Denso and will use a combination of EGR and SCR to hit the Euro-6 NOx limit.

The 4-cylinder DTI 5 will be available in nominal ratings of 210hp and 800Nm; 240hp and 900Nm. The 6-cylinder DTI 8 will be offered in nominal ratings of 250hp and 950Nm; 280hp and 1,050Nm; 320hp and 1,200Nm. A 7.8litre engine – shown at Hannover by sister company Volvo – was itted with a Garrett variable geometry turbocharger. Castings for the new engines, both Renault and Volvo versions, will come from Volvo’s joint venture with Eicher Motors in India, with assembly at Renault’s big engine plant near Lyons.

Renault Trucks’ big announcement at Hannover was that it is about to replace its complete truck range, from top to bottom. “They will be a surprise,” promised Heinz-Jurgen Low, Renault’s boss in Germany. All will be revealed at the launch in Lyons next June.

And while the new XF (pictured) was hogging the limelight at the Daf Trucks stand, arguably the more important news is that next April’s CV Show in Birmingham will be the European launch of new versions of the CF and LF model ranges. We already know about Euro-6 versions of the Cummins ISB 4.5and 6.7-litre engines used by Daf, and the 12.9-litre Paccar MX13 that will go into the big CF models. But what of the Paccar 9.2-litre PR engine in the CF75? Wait until next April, said Daf.
