THE HIGHWAYS AGENCY (HA) denies it ditching its truckstop guide because lorry park closures meant it was misinforming drivers. However, it says that no decision has been made on the future of the printed version, despite its huge popularity.
The list of 102 places where LGV drivers can park up and rest was published in May 2006. A further 40.000 copies printed five months later have all been snapped up. An on-line version has also been created, but the closure of truckstops, including the high-profile Alconbury site in Cambridgeshire, and the opening of 12 new sites meant the free hard copy is now inaccurate.
Some drivers complained the HA struggled to keep the Internet version up to date, leading to rumours it was shelving the guide.
But an HA spokesman promises it will update its internet site after Commercial Motor pointed out the inaccuracies. He adds: "It was a pilot, but it appears to have been a successful venture!"
