Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Independent dealer Euro Wise is marketing used MAN 22.403 6x2s that can be operated as tractors, tippers or mixers—the tipper and mixer bodies are demountable.

The air-suspended mid-lift sleeper-cab tractors are fitted with front-end tipping gear, hinges and brackets for a tipper body, and demount equipment. but retain their fifth wheels, They can be operated at 44 tonnes as 3+3 artics, and are plated at 22.36 tonnes for use as rigids.

The 4o3hp units weigh 7.9 tonnes or 9.61 tonnes with the dropside steel tipper body in place to give a tipper payload allowance 0112.75 tonnes.

Hymix or Truckmixer 4m3 mixer bodies can be specified, powered by donkey engines. The vehicles are taxed at £735.

One man can swap the bodies in as little as four minutes, says Euro Wise boss Peter Hassan. The conversion is available on any suitable tractor equipped with air suspension.

"People want to get maximum utilisation out of each truck they operate, so it doesn't make sense for them to run three trucks when one will do," he says. "They end up paying three lots of tax, having to replace three sets of tyres, and so on. We're taking inquiries from all over the country, particularly from the north of Scotland and the Scottish islands. We've had one inquiry for a unit with a demountable tipper, mixer and Luton body."

Hassan has already enjoyed some success in marketing exsupermarket day-cab Scania P11332 0 tractors that have been converted to mixer chassis.

He believes that the industry has got to become a lot more innovative if it's to dispose of the huge numbers of unsold tractive units parked all over the country. "If you look at the advertisements in the trade press, everyone is trying to sell the same old things," he observes.
