• Some HGV training schools face severe financial penalties because forthcoming regulations will force them to sell their vehicles. From next April HGV1 tests will only be allowed on articulated trucks of 21 tonnes and above, and Wallace School of Transport in Wembley, Middx says it could lose over £130,000 if it has to replace lighter vehicles.
It is calling for a two-year derogation from the higher weight limit — and believes that a 25-tonne minimum limit would be more realistic.
