Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Eaton has produced a central tyre inflation system (cris) which can be used by the driver to set the tyre pressures of a vehicle to any one of four values for operation on road, off road, sand and emergency. These pressures can be changed while the vehicle is moving.

Eaton's CTIS is in volume production and is claimed to offer better vehicle handling in arduous conditions, increased mobility and reduced cargo and vehicle damage. The driver simply selects the required setting, as indicated on a control panel, and the change in pressure is automatic with the rate of change relating to the vehicle speed. Front and rear tyres are monitored separately so that the selected pressure is maintained constantly, compensating for leakage, even when the vehicle is parked.

The system has no external wheel vents that can be fouled by mud, water or debris and the inbuilt diagnostics cater for possible malfunction, The air is taken from the vehicle's supply but the truck's brakes always have priority over the CTIS.
