Keywords : Motion, Extol

• Transport Secretary John Moore has been Oven a golden opportunity to extol the virtues of the Cr( vernment.'s bus de-regulation policy.

At the Conservative Party Conference in Bournemouth next month, he is to reply to a debate urging the Government to continue the process of opening up the transport industry to market forces.

The motion says that maximum efficiency could best be achieved and the needs of the travellers best met, by the policy which allowed fair competition.

The motion is one of five identically worded motions and will give Moore the chance to spell out the programme of de-regulation as well as reveal how many routes are likely to be subff sidised by a local authorities compared with the number before de-regulation.

rj The motions paid little attention to the Channel tunnel, with only three constituencies attacking it.
