Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TANKER DRIVERS' pay negotiations resumed this week, and the Transport and General Workers Union says it is pleased with the progress so far.

Commercial group secretary Jack Ashwell told CM that he feels that Shell management and the Union have made considerable progress towards settling the claim for a wage rise at least in line with the retail price index.

He said that they have still to discuss specific figures, but indicated that they are getting towards that stage. "We are not far apart," he added.

The Shell talks have been adjourned until mid-October, by which time Esso negotiations will also have resumed.

Talks at Texaco were due to restart on Wednesday this week, when further details should be discussed, and BP negotiations are scheduled to begin early next month.

And 400 Dublin oil-tanker drivers have been operating a workto-rule for three weeks as a protest about productivity and working conditions.

Five of the six main companies — Esso is the exception — have been affected, although the much smaller Ola company was still operating as we closed for Press.
