NEXT YEAR will be International Year for Disabled Persons and the National Bus Co is getting in literally on the ground floor with a single-deck bus that kneels like a camel to reduce step height. The vehicle is operated by the .NBC subsidiary, Maidstone and District, which shared the cost of the front suspension conversion with a local organisation for the disabled.
This is one of a number of projects to help the crippled that an NBC study group is evaluating. One of its four members is Mrs Claudia Flanders, widow of that gallant entertainer in a wheeled chair. The other three are NBC men — Fred Dark, Frank Woodworth and Brian Cooper.
