.:IVE senior executives of the National Freight Corporation become directors of the National Freight Company Ltd on October 1. Five non-executive directors of the Corporation have also been appointed to the Board. The full Board of the new company consists of part-time chairman Sir Robert Lawrence who is also a part-time vice-chairman of British Railways Board. Deputy chairmen are Victor Paige (parttime) who is also a part-time chairman of Port of London Authority, and Peter Thompson who has been chief executive of the National Freight Corporation since 1977. Executive directors are Brian Hayward, group managing director, National Carriers Ltd Group; John Mather, group managing director, Special Traffics Group; James Whatson, director of finance, National Freight Corporation; and David White, group managing director, British Road Services Ltd Group. Elliot and Co Ltd; Peter Scott, who is a member of the construction board of Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons Ltd; Jack Sieve, director, Metal Box Ltd; Peter Spriddell, director, Marks and Spencers Ltd; and Sir Ronald Swayne, chairman, Overseas Containers Ltd and Australia Japan Container Line Ltd, and director of Ocean Transport and Trading Ltd. The secretary to the Board is P. Mayo, NFC's director of legal services.

Hargreaves Transport Ltd has named Michael Honor as engineering director, responsible for its Smith and Robinson road tanker fleet. He joined the Hargreaves Group as a trainee in 1972 and was appointed as sistant traffic manager of the Stockton depot of Smith and Robinson five months later. Mr Hargreaves then moved to the Leeds depot but later left the company to work for a number of other transport and distribution companies, rejoining Smith and Robinson as a fleet engineer in 1979.

Bill Goldsworthy will take over as managing director of Heavy Transport (ECC) on October 1. He moves from the company's Plympton depot to St Austell, and in his new position succeeds Len Matthews.

British Road Services Datafreight has promoted Chris Harris to service manager at the BRS Leicester Services Centre. Previously with North Western BRS as manager of its Kitt Green branch, Mr Harris has considerable experience in transport, including shipping and forwarding.

Deidre Kohler is retiring from the Road Haulage Association after six years as Metropolitan and South-east area secretary. She joined the former Associated Road Operators' Metropolitan area as a typist in 1940, and served under three RHA area secretaries, culminating in her becoming assistant secretary in 1959. Her place is being taken by Barry Knaggs, who has spent 14 years with RHA, four of them as Mrs Kohler's assistant.
