Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN EX-CONDUCTOR turned driver only two years ago was awarded the title of Bus Driver of the Year at the Road Transport Industry Training Boards' Motec establishment at High Ercall on Sunday.

Mr R. Butler, is employed as a driver of a oneman operated single-deck Bristol RL by Eastern Counties Omnibus Co Ltd, of Norwich. His victory was impressive. He only attracted a total of 89 penalty points, compared with 121 points by Mr P. E. Kilduff, who was runner up. The average losses were about 250 penalty points although some topped the 500 mark.

Once again the attendance rate was up, with 56 competitors taking part compared to last year's 48. However, there were feiv regular competitors and none of the finalists from last year's competition was placed.

In all there were five sections to the competition; three manoeuvring tests, a paper on the Highway Code and a vehicle inspection test. Drivers had to take a garage manoeuvring, bus stop and vehicle positioning tests. The garage manoeuvring test proved hardest, and some drivers dropped more than 300 penalty points.

High winds and heavy showers kept all but the most ardent supporters away from the final round. One of the attractions of the day was a display by City of Nottingham Transport Department, which showed "The 'Lilac Leopard". This vehicle, a Leyland Leopard chassis, fitted with Duple Dominant bodywork, is one of 18 purchased by the undertaking to be used on a commuter park-and-ride service scheduled to start in Nottingham in August 1975.

The trophies were presented by Mr L. H. Smith, vice-president of the RT1TB and chairman of the UK Bus Driver of the Year competition.
