Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A double-drive version of the Scania 110 forward-control six-wheeled tractive unit will be introduced into the British market early next year. Designated the LBT110, the model has a completely new design of doubledrive rear bogie although the cab, engine and gearbox and the front axle are the same as on the other 110 models of the type.

The two driving axles are basically the same and although based on the singlereduction spiral-bevel unit used on existing 110 chassis the driving casing on the forward axle has an extension to it which houses gearing to transfer the drive to each axle. There is a planetary type of third differential in the transfer-gear casing which, like those at the centres of the two axles, can be locked out to give positive drive if ground conditions require it.

Suspension on the LBT 110 is by a twospring system with location of the axles by a system of radius rods. Wheelbase from the front axle to the first driving axle is IOft and the tractive unit can operate at up to 70 tons gross combination weight. The axles are available with ratios of 4.83 or 5.67 to 1.
