• What is believed to have been the first "Bus Driver of the Year" contest was held in Coventry on Sunday. It was organized by Coventry Road Accident Prevention Council, under the secretaryship of Mr. J. A. Boxall, the city's road safety officer.
Candidates for the contest initially were drivers of Coventry City Transport who had an accident-free record in 1967. These drivers were then checked on driving ability and comfort for passengers afforded by their driving over a period of six months, which reduced the number of candidates to 30.
These 30 drivers competed on Sunday making three manoeuvring tests and also entering a Highway Code test. Winner of the competition was driver Anthony John Moore, with 107+ penalty points. Second was Isaac Jacques, 114 penalty points, third place being a tie between E. A. Wall and W. Marsh (144 points).
