• HM Customs and Excise and the Ministry of Transport have announced a new scheme starting on October I to speed the approval of vehicles and containers for the purposes of the TIR Convention and the Containers Convention for the carriage of goods under Customs seal on international journeys.
Where vehicles and containers are manufactured to identical design specifications as part of a production series, type-approval will in future be given, on application by the manufacturer, after inspection of an initial production unit. Individual certificates of approval for further units will be issued without further inspection, except for spot checks.
