• Sir William Swallow, retiring president of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, welcomed the guests at an "at home" after last week's final meeting of the council for 1967 /68. Among the guests were the president-elect, Mr. G. E. Liardet, chairman and managing director of Simms Electronic and Motor Vehicle Accessories.
The annual report showed a 500 increase in membership and a surplus of income over expenditure of £1,554. The Institute is making a £5,000 transfer to the premises fund in anticipation of purchasing the present lease or freehold.
Mr. Gresham Cooke, past-president, described the development of the national qualification and title for unchartered engineers and the important part played by the IRTE in this.
