Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Transport Bill in relation to drivers' hours? What exactly does the 10-hour provision entail when compared with the existing legislation?

AThe Bill states that driving time will be -time at the driving controls of the

vehicle for the purpose of controlling its movement" and a 10-hour limit is proposed for this. This compares with 11 hours under the existing regulations but this also includes time for other work in connection with vehicle or load. The new proposals state that total work including driving must not exceed 11 hours hence a driver can book an additional hour for roping and sheeting, etc.

Time at the wheel and performing work in connection with vehicle and load amounts to 11 hours in both cases: so it can be seen for practical purposes there is little change.

What has gone (or what is to go) is the 14-hour spreadover. Further more, a driver will now have 11 consecutive hours of rest as against 10 hours under existing regulations.
