Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Juliet Morrison • French-owned operator Norbert Dentressangle aims to increase its UKregistered fleet tenfold in a five-year expansion plan.

A drive to win more UK domestic haulage and enter the contract hire and swap body market is expected to boost its UK-based fleet from 83 trucks now to about 800 by 2000.

The thrust into the British market could expand Dentressangle's UK network from four to seven depots within five years. It comes after the £253m-turnover firm raised around £7.5m in a flotation in June.

Most of Dentressangle's UK revenue has been generated from international deliveries until now. It acquired UK domestic work with its purchase of Aylesbury-based Aston Clinton Haulage in January 1992 but only about 10% of ACH's £5m turnover comes from UK domestic work.

Next month Norbert Dentressangle plans to open a site in Birmingham where it wants to establish a foothold in domestic work and to expand into contract hire.

Contact hire, which accounts for 13% of the group's business, is concentrated in France, Spain and Italy.
