• The troubled international and domestic operator Seafield has returned to profit despite ever-toughening margins in its international market and disruptive action by rebel share holders.
The £220,000 pre-tax profit on the company's £7.9m turnover for the six months to 30 June represented a turnround in the company's figures, according to chairman Brian Chilver.
But Seafield notes continued intense competition in domestic distribution and severe rate cutting in international transport.
For the same period last year, Seafield made a loss of il.lm because of crippling interest charges on its property business and the termination of a Waitrose distribution contract in July 1993. Seafield has since sold its property business.
