• Two visitors to the NEC Motor Show went away with much more than a carrier bag full of brochures. Les Gaskin, who drives for East Anglian animal-feed manufacturer Favor Parker, picked up the keys to a brand new Renault G290 4x2 tractive unit. Gaskin won the joint Commercial Motor/Renault Truck Industries' Win a 38korner competition and has the use of the G290 free for a year. It will operate with Favor Parker's 42-strong fleet, haul ing feedstuffs from the company's Stoke Ferry base.
Peter Wilson, fleet engineer with furniture manufacturer Geo A Moore 81 Company, also had a memorable show. He is going on a 10-day summer holiday in Corfu, Greece, courtesy of Bedford. Wilson's estimate of the distance covered between Luton and Olympia by a Bedford Midi turbo van in the Commercial Motor/Bedford Midi Marathon was closest to the mark.
