Towcester Magistrates in what is thought to be the first prosecution in England under the new Road Traffic (Carriage of Dangerous Substances in Packages etc) Regulations 1986.
Metal Box admitted four offences under the Regulations, namely: failing to issue the driver with written instructions as to the nature and hazards of the substance being carried: failing to train the driver adequately to carry dangerous loads: failing to train the driver adequately so that he understood his duties under the Regulations: and failing to ensure that the vehicle displayed the appropriate hazchem plate at the rear.
Factories Inspector Richard Lockwood said the case followed a joint vehicle check carried out by the police and the Health and Safety Executive.
