• Oil giant Esso is confident that its hived-off South East distribution contract with Tankfreight will be "up and running by 1 November", despite the previous contractor, Calor Transport, pulling out at three weeks' notice (CM 13-19 October).
Tankfreight was awarded the business only two weeks ago. Its previous bid for the contract was rejected in May, when Esso tendered-out its industrial and wholesale distribution to Wincanton in the West Country and Midlands, United Transport Tankers in the North and Scotland, and Calor in the South East, The South East contract will involve less than 50 vehicles, says Tankfreight, The National Freight Consortium subsidiary already handles all distribution for Texaco and Gulf, using 300 vehicles.
