air cam drum brake. ERF will fit the Simplex 410mm brake to its 4x2 tractive unit from November, and during 1989 the same brake will be phased in across ERF's entire range. Steyr will also install the brake in its new 17S 21 model, recently launched in the UK. Lucas claims the Simplex has a lining life over 50% longer than its competitors and is cheap to maintain.
The Simplex is already fitted to all Volvo trucks. The ERF and Steyr orders will bring production in factories in South Wales and West Germany up to 150,000 units a year.
