Power cleaner

A LOW-PRICE air-operated cleaning gun suitable for use in workshops is now being imported by Gray-Campling Ltd. Called the NSG Power Cleaning Gun, it operates on the same principles as a conventional paint-spray gun.

The unit is completely self-contained. It has a pistol-grip and trigger control and a hand control adjusts the mixture of air and cleaning solution. The unit is suitable for use with various solvents and will operate at pressures up to 250 p.s.i.

The NSG gun is supplied with a 4ft 4in. length of clear-plastic suction hose fitted with a screen filter: longer lengths of hose can be attached if necessary. The 0.5in. chromed steel tubing terminates in a dualpurpose nozzle which can be adjusted to give either a narrow or wide spray. Overall length is 18in. and the gun weighs 21b. Available from: Gray-Campfing Ltd., Martins Bank Chambers, 49 Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, Hants.

Price: £3 10s.

THE A50 Autofoam extinguisher unit introduced by Angus Fire Armour (a division of George Angus and Co. Ltd.) is designed for fire protection on premises where quantities of flammable liquids are stored or used.

It holds llgal of foam compound and is claimed to produce as much foam as ten 30gal foam extinguishers. The unit is available trolley-mounted or suitable for permanent installation in buildings or vehicles. Fully automatic versions can be supplied.

The foam-compound tank forms the basis of the unit. This is fitted at its base with a water inlet control valve which is connected to any water supply giving 40 p.s.i. pressure or more. In the case of the trolley model the inlet is fitted with a standard coupling suitable for connection to a hydrant, stand pipe, landing valve or similar. Duraline Fire Hose-100ft of 2in.—connects the foam outlet on top of the tank to an L.2 foam-making branch-pipe carried when not in use on the side of the tank. The hose is stored in a swinging hose reel, or rack, or can be strapped to the trolley.

When fully charged with Nicerol proteinfoam compound, the A50 Autofoam unit will, with an inlet pressure of 115 p.s.i. produce 2,500gal of high-quality foam, at a rate of 385gal per min. With an inlet pressure of 75 p.s.i. foam is produced at a rate of 308ga1 per min.

Price: £2,500 plus £75 delivery and installation charges. THE popularity of Holmes positive displacement air blowers for use on bulk-transport vehicles is said to be the main reason for the firm introducing a specially designed model to meet the specific requirements of vehicle builders and users in this field.

While retaining the design features of machines in the standard Holmes range, the lattest design—the Size 68 Type RBS Blower—incorporates many additional features. Weight has been reduced and mounting on the vehicle has been simplified by the removal of the baseplate.

It has an increased-diameter drive shaft and larger bearings to increase reliability. And the oil seals previously used have been superceded by slingers and a labyrinth arrangement which require no attention throughout the life of the blower.

Other features include the positioning of the oil filler, drain and oil level plugs so that the blower can be mounted either vertically or horizontally without modification.

A mechanically driven tachometer is now provided on the gear-case cover. Centre timing makes possible operation in either direction and the new machine is suitable for direct drive from the power take-off, beltdrive from the power take-off, independent drive from a petrol or diesel power pack or by an hydraulic pump or motor.

Made by: W. C. Holmes and Co. Ltd., PO Box No. B7, Tumbridge, Huddersfield, Yorks.

Reduces later AN important point was missed from the item on Transport Dieslip published in our issue of September 29. It should have been stated that this product is intended to be added to dery at a rate of one part to 750-1 pint to 94.5 gal—as the regular treatment. The ratio of one-and-a-half pints to lOgal that was quoted referred to the initial treatment when it is intended to clear carbon deposits in the engine.
