N NEW TANKERS ranging from 1,500gal to 6,000gal capacity have been placed on a threeyear contract with Atlantic Petroleum Ltd. Owner and operator of the vehicles is Trans-Port Terminals Ltd., a member of the Silcock and Coiling group, better known for its cartransporter activities.
The contract to build the tankers was awarded to Andrews of Aintree Ltd. Worth £55,000, it was won in competition with 22 other tenders, some from EFTA countries.
All the tanks are of mild steel; five will go on semi-trailer chassis and five on rigids. Biggest of the artic models is a double-taper, max-section of 6,000gal with seven compartments; discharge is through 4in. pipelines by a Drum B.6.E. pump. It has RTS running gear and is mounted on 18.00-19.5 Goodyear Super Singles.
An AEC Mammoth Minor tractive unit hauls this tank, and the outfit—plated for 32 tons gross—has load-sensed braking throughout.
Four smaller artics of 4,000gal capacity and of parallel max.-section type are hauled by Ford D1000 tractive units and plated as outfits at 24 tons g.t.w. These are mounted on single-axle RTS running gear and again feature load-sensed braking.
The five rigids are Ford D1000s of 188in. wheelbase and a 134in.-wheelbase D800. The larger four are plated for 16 tons g.v.w. and have 2,700gal tanks, while the small one has a capacity of 1,500gal. All are discharged through Wayne TIO meters and a 120ft hose-reel equipped with electric rewinding gear.
Elliptical tanks are used on these rigids, while Drum B.4.E. pumps provide for a delivery rate of between 30 and 180gal per min.
