From a special correspondent

yORKSHIRE bus operators may pull the rug from under Mrs. Barbara Castle's feet by setting up their own transport authority at Huddersfield.

All public transport services in Huddersfield will be completely co-ordinated if discussions are successful between members of the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Passenger Transport Co-ordinating Committee—operators and local authority representatives.

The object is to achieve by the voluntary co-operation of the operators the fullest harmony of West Riding road and rail services.

The announcement was made after the meeting between members of the co-ordinating committee and representatives of the Municipal Passenger Transport Association, Passenger Vehicles Operators Association and Public Transport Association, at Leeds last week.

A technical working party to be set up to work out details will report to a steering committee.

The operators in the area are: Baddeley Brothers; Bradford City transport; British Railways; County Motors (Lepton); Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee; Hansons Buses Ltd.; Hebble Motor Services Ltd.; Huddersfield Corporation transport department; Huddersfield Joint Omnibus Committee; North Western Road Car Co. Ltd.; Sheffield Joint Omnibus Committee; West Riding Automobile Co. Ltd.; Yorkshire Traction Col. Ltd., and Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co. Ltd.

A standing conference of operators in the Yorkshire and Humberside region is also to -be set up and will concern itself with matters on which it will be useful for operators to reach a regional viewpoint— such as standardization of conditions of carriage; effects of labour shortage; interavailability of tickets and the question of comprehensive timetables.
