SIV MT predicts a healthy future for used truck

The future for sales of used vehicles is looking bright, according to the industry, and it is backed up by figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

According to several truck manufacturers, the current rate of their used sales will outpace new sales by four to one, and it is a gap that is set to increase.

This limits supply to the independents, who were for a long time the backbone of the used market. The SMMT announced used truck sales are up 3.7% over the third quarter, to 19,588 vehicles, while the year-to-dal figures are up 7.4% to 60,944 units.

The van market is prospering as well, used light CVs up 5% over the third qua to 194,637 vehicles, and 2003 figures hay risen 10.2% to 588,579 units year-on-yea SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan says these used vehicle figu directly reflect the recent growth in the new commercial vehicle markets, and points towards further evidence of a str economy."Rising used CV sales are yel another barometer of strong economic confidence, showing increased investm in UK businesses," he says.
