by Barton Transport Ltd., of Chilwell, Notts, to vary their backing licences for tours and excursions from their base to Blackpool, Morecambe and Southport was heard by the North Western Traffic Commissioners on Monday and Tuesday. This application, to alter a setting-down point to facilitate greater convenience for passengers, was refused. Barton Transport operate express services to Blackpool and in 1961 founded a series of inclusive tours to the town at Whitsun and Easter and to see the illuminations.

The existing setting-down point at Blackpool is about one mile from the hotel where passengers stay. On arrival at this point passengers arc taken by taxi to the hotel, which necessitates disembarking twice and the changing over of luggage. Scout Motor Services Ltd., W. C. Standerwick Ltd., Ribble Motor Services Ltd., Lancashire United Transport North Western Road Car Co. Ltd., and the Town Clerk of Blackpool all objected Mr. E. Miller, of the applicant company, said that Blackpool Corporation objected to the setting-down point in the road on which the hotel stood because of the road's narrowness. All the tours operated were of five days' duration, he added, and they would not affect the illuminations traffic because they arrived at lunch time
