T'rumpus over London Trans'port'sbus schedules appears to be fizzling out—at least for the time being. The last attempt to stir the discontent over cuts in week-end services . into a full-scale official overtime ban failed when busmen held a delegate conference in. London on Wednesday.
Officials of the Transport and General Workers' Union fought hard against the overtime propOsal. They pointed out, amid uproar, that such a step would he unconstitutional, as previous conference representatives had voted against it earlier this month.
There was such a row that the meeting had to be adjourned to allow the central bus committee to consider the position. They decided, in effect, to drop the fight against winter schedules and concentrate instead on changes in timetables about to come into force between January and June. They proposed that the busmen's negotiating committee should inform London Transport that unless there were drastic revisions in the proposed cuts in schedules official action would be taken throughout the bus section. This was accepted by the conference.
Unofficial action of Some kind, however, is expected to continue for a little while yet.
