Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TO be known as Bonallack Scottish Ltd., with offices in Prestwick and Glasgow, a new company has been formed by Bonallack and Sons Ltd. in conjunction with Scottish Aviation Ltd., of Prestwick, and Gerard Wakeham Ltd., of Glasgow, who for the past 14 years have been Bonallack's agents for Scotland. Bonallack Scottish Ltd. will now become the sole selling agents for Scotland for all Bonallack products.

Production in Scotland will be in the hands of the S.A.L. Engineering Products division of Scottish Aviation, who initially will .concentrate on standard Bonallack bodies, extending their activities as soon as possible to cover the complete Bonallack range, including pressure tanks and refrigerated vehicles.

Prior to 1950, Scottish Aviation designed and manufactured passenger vehicles, but this was temporarily abandoned in the early '50s when aircraft production was intensified; it was reintroduced in 1958, then including goods vehicle bodies. Their factory at Prestwick Airport covers an area of 81 acres with 4 m. sq. ft. of equipped floor space.

DR. BEECHING LOOKS 20 YEARS AHEAD THE whole notion of car purchasers' requirements will change substantially in the next 20 years, with lower annual mileages and more local journeys. With three times as many cars on the roads as at present, investment in vehicles would amount to £20,000 m.

These were views expressed at the annual luncheon of the Motor Industry Research Association in London on Wednesday by Dr. R. Beeching, chairman of British Railways Board. He recommended the Association to take into its considerations the long-term prospects of the motorcar.

The role of the railways and the motorcar was not competitive he added.
