Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Northern Traffic Commissioners last week gave permission to Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., and two associated concerns to run a service from_KeSvvick to London, the route of which will include the Ml.

Ribble successfully applied to vary backings for 14 stage-carriage and express licences concerning services between Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The application to run between Keswick and London was made by Ribble, W. C. Standcrwick, Ltd., and Scout Motor. Services, Ltd.

Mr. F. D. Walker, for the applicants, said that they had developed a longdistance double-decker, based on the Leyland Atlantean chassis, to ' ease demands during the summer peaks. Permission to dispense with conductors was sought. An undertaking had been given to the railways that the use of doubledeckers would be limited.

. Mr. G. Dawes, Ribble traffic assistant, said that a further 24 Atlanteans, of slightly modified design, were expected next spring.

Use of the motorway between Keswick and London, said Mr. Walker, would mean that the trip could be completed in 2 hours 10 minutes less than the time for the present service, 13 hours 55 minutes. The new service would be run all the year, and operation on the existing route would be subject to limitation on Saturdays and Sundays from June-September.

The present duplication allowance would be divided between the two facilities.
