. was convicted at Perth on Monday for carrying an excessive load of timber, stated to be 3 tons 8 cwt. overweight.

The defending solicitor said that the driver had been sent to Aberdeenshire to load timber blown down in the gales earlier this year. The Forestry Commission would not grant a rebate on the timber unless it were taken out of the county in which it was loaded before being weighed. Defendant intended weighing the load at Perth.

R.H.A. PRIZES FOR STUDENTS

THE Scottish Area of the Road Haulage Association has awarded prizes amounting to £14 14s, to the following winners of the Royal Society of Arts Diploma in Road Transport Operation (Scheme B): Mr. A. J. Cairns, Mr. J. Hall, Mr, D. P. Mitchell, Mr. J. Gordon, Mr. E. Lapharn, Mr. W. Mack and Mr. D. Fortune.

Mr. Lanham and Mr. Gordon also received prizes from the Scottish Road Passenger Transport Association.
