LOW-VISCOSITY oils are saving Liverpool Transport Department £3,000 a year. Research into engine speeds and other factors affecting fuel has increased the average return frcim 8.94 m.p.g. to 9.06 m.p.g., saving 00,000, and the use of moulded brake facings is saving £2,500.
Cllr. F. Bidston, chairman of the transport committee, gave this information during a recent inspection of the department by the committee.
At the beginning of the current financial year, said Clir. Bidston, they faced an estimated deficit of £100,000, but because of reductions in the prices of certain commodities and economies which had been effected, the outlook was brighter.
Tram conversion in the south of the city had been completed, and steady progress was being made in other parts.

THE Scottish Motor Show at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, had a record attendance of 167,127: This figure was over 30,000 more than that of the previous Show in 1949.
