The New 50 h.p. J. Type Chassis. A Six-wheeled Tractor Lorry.
A Motor Coach de Luxe. •
STAND No. 97.
SOME VERY fine examples of engineering and coachbuilding work are to be found displayed by this wellknown and old-established company.
One exhibit, in particular, 'which attracts many visitors is the Londontype bus, of Which several are running most successfully in service. The chassis used in this vehicle is the 50 h.p. type J, and the accommodation is for 50 passengers, the example shown being made for the Cambrian Co. and the body being built by Christopher Dodson, Ltd. It is rather different from the ordinary London type, as it permits four people to sit facing at each side.
Next to this is a 25-seater singledeck bus on the 30 h.p. chassis equipped with pneumatic tyres. This has an entrance at the near-side front to the driver's seat and a separate entrance at the near-side back for the passengers ; communication between driver and passengers can be effected when necessary by a sliding glass window ; otherwise the driver's compartment is completely enclosed.
The third passenger vehicle is a Patrician motor coach de luxe mounted on the 30 h.p. long chassis and, of course, equipped with pneumatic tyres. The seating arrangements are for 18 persons only, so as to give the maximum of comfort. The driver has a separate bucket seat, and the door also giYes entrance to the first row of seats; ths second doer opens on to two rows of seats, the second row being foreshortened to give a gangway. The same method is employed for allowing entrance to the last and penultimate rows.
The chief goods-carrying vehicle is a B.T. type six-wheeled tractor-lorry, which is designed for a load of not more than 4 tons. It is built to comply with overseas conditions, where axle weights are restricted, and both the chassis and trailer are equipped with pneumatic tyres.
Ball and socket joints are utilized in lieu of a turntable, and use is made at this point of two laminated springs to relieve shock.
Next in order, of merit comes a 1,200gallon tank wagon with D-shaped tank, divided into three compartments and designed for carrying petroleum in bulk.
The final exhibit is a 6-ton brewer's dorry mounted on a chassis equipped with the latest 50 h.p. engine, which is a new production built on the lines of the very successful engine employed on the B.T.type chassis.
